Anxiety, Depression and Exercise

During challenging times it is very easy to be stressed out and feel trapped. We completely understand and we hope we can help.

Believe it or not, there is a direct and significant link between exercise and the stress relieving hormones in the brain. As you have probably been told before, exercise increases the production of endorphins. But what does this really mean? Well, endorphins are any given group of hormones so which ones increase during exercise and why is it helpful for stress, anxiety relief and depression ease?  Well, dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine are among the chemicals that the brain produces during exercise:

Dopamine: Known as the “happy hormone”, this neurotransmitter plays upon the brain’s pleasure and reward sections and is responsible for our feeling of happiness

Serotonin: Another “happy hormone” that greatly contributes to the brain’s sense of happiness.

Norepinephrine: Similar to adrenaline, this naturally produced chemical is released into the brain when something stress inducing has occurred.

Depression affects your brain on a biochemical level which is why exercise is used to combat it. The stress relieving hormones produced by means of physical activity can be your most significant tool when you are trying to fight depression, stress and anxiety.

Did you know exercise can also improve your memory and help relieve PTSD?!

Is there no limit to what it can do?!
