Achieving and Defining Your Perfect Body
When you are defining your perfect body you want to consider your body composition including where you are now and where you want to be. First you want to figure out your current BMI. Then you need to find a healthy BMI for you based on your age and height. You should then set your goals around achieving it.
When trying to set a new goal, it’s important to make it S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound). Defining your perfect body falls into this category.
Specific
Saying that you want to achieve your “perfect body” this year for example is much easier said than done. What does it actually entail? Does it mean losing weight, gaining weight, increasing muscle mass etc.? Making a specific goal is one of the most important parts of goal setting because it will determine what you do in the next steps to come, you are much less likely to achieve your “perfect body” if your goal is too vague.
Measurable
Make sure that your goal can be easily tracked or measured. For example, saying “I want to look more athletic” is not a very measurable goal, whereas saying “i want to increase/ decrease my BMI” is. Your perfect body could also be measured by your body composition. Finding out how much fat you have compared to muscle is important for measuring and tracking your progress.
Attainable/ Realistic
Another super important part of goal setting is ensuring that your “perfect body” isn’t fantasy worthy. Your goal has to be realistic enough for you to be able to achieve it in even the busiest times of your life.
Time-Bound
Goals can take a long time to achieve so it is important to give yourself the time to achieve your “perfect body”.
For example, if achieving your goal body includes losing 5 lbs you can calculate the time it will take.
1lb of fat = 3,500 calories (approx)
5 lbs of fat = 17500 calories
With a calorie deficit of 500 calories per day, this goal should take about 35 days. However we are still human and we make mistakes, so realistically this goal should take around 40 to 50 days to achieve.
Remember that achieving your perfect body is not a linear process, people make mistakes and its okay, just don’t give up! Team NTC has got your back!
